Class Benefits
Tai Chi classes take place in the Studio at Trainer Games Fitness Centre every Wednesday from 10–11am. Tai Chi is a system of movements and positions believed to have developed in 12th-century China — addressing body and mind as an interconnected system.
Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise now used for stress reduction and a variety of health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.
- Improved balance and stability
- Pain management
- Improved brain function
- Improved sleep quality
Low impact and gentle on muscles and joints — generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. Especially suitable for older adults who may not otherwise exercise.
Louise Marcoux Phillips has been teaching Tai Chi since 2007. Jointly with her Tai Chi Master Michael Kirwin, she created the Headwaters School of Tai Chi in 2010, and in 2018 founded the North Dufferin School of Tai Chi, offering classes in Shelburne ever since.
